In a court hearing, two officers from the Zambia Army testified that they were encouraged to rebel against their superiors after reading a post on Facebook by Chilufya Tayali, the President of the Economic and Equity Party. The officers recounted how Tayali’s words incited them to take action against their command.
During a recent trial, a witness testified that Mr. Tayali had incited them to rise against the army command. The incident in question was related to the payment of allowances to Zambia Army soldiers who were assigned to United Nations peace missions. Mr. Tayali’s posting on the matter had allegedly encouraged the witness and others to take action against the army command.
Mr. Tayali is currently facing charges of inciting mutiny by allegedly seducing members of the defense forces to rise against the Republican President. During the trial, a witness testified that Tayali had encouraged them to rebel against the army command, further supporting the prosecution’s case.
In April 2022, a witness testified that Tayali had incited them to rise against the army command, which is considered a crime.
During a court hearing, Staff Sergeant Gabriel Tembo testified that he witnessed an alleged post by Tayali that incited military officers to rise against their command. The post, which was shared in a WhatsApp group, caused confusion and discontent among the officers, leading to disorderly outbursts. Magistrate Kelvin Soma presided over the hearing.
