In an effort to combat illicit financial flows, Nairobi recently hosted a meeting of African Auditor-Generals. The event was chaired by Kenya’s Auditor-General, CPA Nancy Gathungu, CBS, who also leads the African Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions’ (AFROSAI) Institutional and Technical Capacity Building Committee.
During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Dr. Dick Chellah Sichembe, the Auditor-General of the Republic of Zambia who was represented by Mr. Moses Mtonga Assistant Director in the Directorate of Revenue, in the Office of the Auditor General to establish a coordinated regional audit on illicit financial flows.
In an effort to combat the detrimental effects of illicit financial flows in Africa, Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) recently convened in Nairobi to discuss potential solutions.
These SAIs have pledged to collaborate with other institutions in the accountability chain to address the challenges posed by these flows, which often leave countries ill-equipped to make a positive impact on the lives and livelihoods of their citizens. By working together, these institutions hope to create a more transparent and accountable financial system in Africa.
