KAMAYOYO Kelvin, Zambian Economist, Scholar, Buyzed Technical Advisor and Former Western Province Expo Advisor today hosted the Weskate Mongu Team for lunch at Levy Mall in Lusaka to celebrity their gigant and excellent performance during the National Skateboard Championship held yesterday at NASDEC during which they scooped the third prize and qualified to the All Africa Championship games. Kamayoyo who has adopted the Weskate Mongu Team from Western Province has called upon the corporate world and other companies including individuals in Zambia and beyond to come on board and unconditionally support the team because the sky is nolonger a limit for their success in the sports of Skateboard.
Kamayoyo has said supporting sports tourism is the only viable and effective way the companies or the private sector can give back to the community and Skateboard is equally one such sport they can exploit because it is a unique and exciting sport which kids love most. He further argued that skateboard can also be used to prevent children or kids from engaging into destructive social vices which denies them from expressing their inherent natural talent and full potential for growth so as to become better people in society.
Kamayoyo said Skateboard is not the only sport he will be involved and supporting because he has in the past supported boxing, music, football, netball and cyclists across the country. He stressed that even though most people may know him of economics, institutional transformation and organising Expos he also has great love for sports and he has been supporting sports for many years particularly identifying talent and empowering the vulnerable communities across the country.
The victory by the Weskate Mongu team in yesterday’s National Skateboard Championship has even motivated me to do more for the Western Province team so that they can storm the continent and the world with excellence and break unnecessary perceived barriers that rural communities are unable to produce a gold medal or a champion in sports.
It is indeed a victory for the people of Barotseland and the kids have made us proud and this is the beginning of breaking artificial barriers in sports using excellence and high performance as a strategy for penetrating onto the global platform of sports. Kamayoyo encouraged the kids to remain united, brave and determined so that they can continue being champions in future tournaments. He further urged the kids to be obedient to their coach and respectful to the elders at home and outside so that they can grow as normal people with proper guidance and discipline.
Kamayoyo said, time has now come to identify talent in the rural areas if we are to accelerate efforts towards inclusive economic development for all Zambians based on their tangible and intangible comparative skills advantages. He emphasised that the kids’ performance is a source of joy to the people of Western Province and after this tournament they are nolonger the same because they have learnt something as well which has enriched their skills capabilities for future glory. He said he was happy for the Weskate Mongu team’s performance and especially their determination and exceptional talent in Skateboard.
