KAMAYOYO Kelvin, Zambian Economist, Scholar and Chief BuyZed Technical Advisor has noted that the Great Zambezi River is an anchor for tourism and plays a significant factor supply role in various economic sectors of most countries within the Zambezi River basin in Southern Africa. The Zambezi River stretches from Zambia way up to Mozambique into the lndian Ocean and during its gigantic journey it positively impacts many lives be it humans or wildlife and national economies too.
Kamayoyo emphasised that it was important that the Zambezi River is further conserved and commercially harnessed in order to stimulate economic growth and create decent job opportunities to the surrounding local communities. There is need to support local river communities to upscale their production capacities be it in fisheries, livestock or agriculture farming.
Further, let’s conserve Zambezi River so that it continues nourishing the mighty Victoria Falls whose power is manifested by the magificient flow of the waterfalls. Hence, our noble Campaign “African Rivers Matter: 2023 and Beyond”: is to protect all the African rivers, lakes, streams and tributaries for sustainable conservation of the ecosystem.
