A 23-year-old farmer of Itezhi -Tezhi district in Southern Province has pleaded guilty to stealing a cow valued at K13, 000.
Before court was Mike Shakanoko of Lubanda area in Chikaza Munyama Chiefdom in Itezhi -Tezhi who stood charged with stock theft contrary to section 275 and 272 of the penal code cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the case were that on a date unknown but in February 2023 Shakanoko did steal one cow valued at K13, 000, in Itezhi –Tezhi district, the property of Himagaya Kasambo.
When the matter came up for plea before Itezhi-Tezhi Magistrates Mugala Chalwe, Shakanoko told court that he understood the charge and pleaded guilty.
When asked what he did with the animal after stealing it, Shakanoko told court that he sold the cow within Itezhi- Tezhi Township and when he got paid, he bought food.
The case has since been adjourned to March 7, 2023 for written statement of facts and possible sentencing.
Meanwhile, trial in a case in which a 30-year-old Itezhi -Tezhi farmer pleaded not guilty to defiling an imbecile failed to take place.
In this case, Boyd Shilupizhi, of Lubanda area in Chikaza Munyama Chiefdom of Southern Province is charged with one count of defilement of an Idiot or imbecile contrary to section 139 of the Penal code Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia as read together with Act no. 15 of 2005.
Particulars of the offense allege that Boyd Shilupizhi , on 2nd January ,2023, in Itezhi -Tezhi district of Southern Province , had carnal knowledge of Iness Mayinda , a woman he knew to be an imbecile or idiot.
Shilupizhi was arrested without a warrant on 5th January 2023 after guardians of the victim reported him to Itezhi -Tezhi Police station.
When the matter came up for continued trial, public prosecutor Sydney Jere told court that the witnesses were not present and applied for an adjournment.
Magistrates Mugala chalwe then adjourned the matter to March 8 for continued trial.
