The National Association for Medium and Small Scale Contractors-NAMSSC- has advised contractors who are aggrieved by the cancellation of their non- performing or expired contracts to seek recourse in the courts of law or other relevant authorities.
Association President Edgar Siakacoma has charged that the apparent confusion in the sector, caused by some contractors is making the industry toxic and if they are real businessmen as they claim, they should take the government to court.
Mr Siakacoma further expects the government, to take action on the companies whose projects will be found wanting by way of invoking the stipulated course of action as per the signed contracts.
He is of the view that a sanitized construction sector will grant genuine contractors an ability to identify the many opportunities that the Constituency Development Fund-CDF- and the subcontracting policies, among others present to them.
Local Government and Rural Development Minister Garry Nkombo recently disclosed that government has terminated over 200 out of 240 non-performing contracts worth K10 billion.
