President Hakainde Hichilema has assured mine worker unions on the Copperbelt that government will continue working to ensure smooth operations of the mining sector anchored on predictable policy environment.
Speaking during a consultative meeting with the unions last night, the head of state said his government will always be available to repair every challenge the sector might face.
The President notes that the good health of the mining sector is the good health of the entire country hence government`s resolve to address the challenges in the sector.
President Hichilema who also met with mine suppliers and contractors emphasized on more work in order to achieve his administration’s intended goals.
Speaking earlier, Mine Workers Union President Joseph Chewe said the unions will continue to work with President Hakainde Hichilema and his government to help in unlocking the mining sector.
Mr Chewe also underscored the role the mining sector play in Zambia’s economic landscape and its huge contribution to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product -GDP.
He says resolving the challenges facing the mining sector will require collaboration between the government and sector players, with the workers being at the center.
