Finance and National Planning Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE is in Cape Town South Africa engaging various mining investors on the sidelines of the 2023 Investing in African Mining Indaba.
Dr. MUSOKOTWANE says his role at the Indaba is to give investors political credence and assuring them of government support.
He says government has huge mining assets like Mopani which has attracted interest from various stakeholders and government is trying to link investors to the assets.
The Minister says his engagements are in line with government’s target of increasing annual copper production to 3-million metric tons in 19 years time.
He has told ZNBC News in Cape Town that increased investments in the mining industry translates to increased revenue for the Treasury which is key for social and economic development.
And ZCCM -IH Board Chairperson DOLIKA BANDA says the Zambian desk has recorded increased interests from various mining players.
Ms. BANDA says she has had good conversations with various stakeholders interested to invest in Zambia because of its strategic location.
Ms. BANDA also stated that about 15 companies across the globe have expressed interest in Mopani Copper Mines but that a due diligence and transparent process needed to be followed.
