Workers from Petroda Zambia Limited have downed tools following the failure by management to effect new salary increments.
In an interview with Phoenix News, the workers who this morning staged a peaceful protest disclosed that they have failed to reach an agreement with management especially on the payment of the new salaries which are in line with the new minimum wage and gratuities.
They have vowed not to report back for work if their grievances are not addressed further calling on the labor office to intervene.
The Petroda workers who include fuel attendants and drivers among others gathered at Petroda service station located on Mumbwa road, in Lusaka’s Garden House area and explained that they are paid K1,900 instead of K2,900 and that they are also subjected to long hours of working while management has also stopped providing them with safety boots.
Efforts to get a comment from the company’s Human Resources Personnel only identified as Mr. Banda failed by broadcasting time as his mobile phone was unreachable.
