Opposition Green Party Leader Peter Sinkamba says the revocation of immunity of former Konkola Copper Mines-KCM- Liquidator Milingo Lungu should act as a lesson to public office bearers and help them to desist from abusing public offices.
On Thursday this week, Director Of Public Prosecution Gilbert Phiri revoked the immunity from prosecution granted to Mr. Lungu, who was exempted from prosecution by former DPP Lillian Siyunyi in a matter where he is accused of embezzling K4.4 million from KCM and another matter where he was accused of possessing property suspected to be proceeds of crime.
In an interview with phoenix news, Mr. Sinkamba says the revocation of Mr. Lungu’s immunity is a step in the right direction as the initial granting of immunity was irregular.
Mr. Sinkamba adds that it is important for public office bearers to always act within the confines of the law and serve the interests of the people of Zambia, as doing anything to the contrary has consequences.
