KAMAYOYO Kelvin, a Zambian Economist and Scholar who is also Chief Technical Advisor and Strategist for BuyZed Campaign has noted that for Zambian products to withstand the fierce competition from the foreign products there is need to embrace the concept of public-private partnership and multi-sectoral approach in the Campaign for local products preference so that supply-side constraints and other associated structural and behavioral market barriers can be addressed adequately.
He emphasised that to sufficiently increase or shift the market demand curve in favour of Zambian products as opposed to foreign products, all concerned economic actors would have to appreciate, exercise flexibility and recognise the value of stakeholders co-existence be it domiciled in public or private thus, inter-and-intra, sectors because ultimately they are all pursuing a common goal which is essentially growing local businesses and improving the citizen’s standard of living.
Kamayoyo observed that the BuyZed Campaign and Proudly Zambian Campaign, henceforth, should work more closely and together effectively champion this progressive agenda of positively changing the mindset or preference of local consumers towards appreciating Zambian products. Again BuyZed Campaign and Proudly Zambian initiative ought to be buttressed through the concept of public-private partnership and multi-sectoral approach as these are fundamental campaign infrastructure for guaranteeing success and mutually beneficial cooperation that would help the private sector to thrive and yield the much desired consumer satisfaction.
Kamayoyo expressed special gratitude and appreciation on behalf of BuyZed Campaign team to His Excellency, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia for appointing Mr. Evans Kazonga Ng’oma, CEO and Co-Founder of BuyZed Campaign as Brand Ambassador. The BuyZed Campaign team is delighted that His Excellency the Republican President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema has accorded Mr. Evans Ng’oma yet another responsibility to even push further the country’s home-grown solutions development agenda within the context of promoting the production and consumption of locally produced and sourced goods and services.
Added to this, two months ago, the Republican President His Excellency, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema handed over a copy of the Eighth National Development Plan to Mr. Ng’oma during the blueprint launch in Lusaka and urged him to help market the Plan to the country’s business community. BuyZed is equal to the task and is immensely grateful for both recognitions. Kamayoyo noted that embracing the Public-Private Partnership approach would help to pull diverse expertise and resources together to achieve the intended objectives of the BuyZed Campaign especially that the private sector comes with their inherent strength of greater efficiency, access to third party funding and economies of scale.
He said that the initiative to promote Zambian products is somewhat or theoretically anchored on demand and supply which is characterised by an elevated market equilibrium with many Zambian manufacturers or entrepreneurs producing goods and services that are more preferred on the local market in this instance the Zambian market. Kamayoyo stressed that there is undeniable assured strength in closely working together and unity of diversity especially when it is anchored on the principle of public-private partnership. In otherwords, based on the cogent concept of public-private partnership both BuyZed Campaign and Proudly Zambian Campaign ought to share complementary objectives and discover clearly defined operational frameworks for effective co-existence.
