The Zambia Police Service has recorded a total number of 18 cases of sodomy countrywide from 1st January 2022 to 20th September 2022.
Delivering a Ministerial Statement in parliament this afternoon, Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu has disclosed that Lusaka Province has reported 7 cases which is the highest with 5 arrests and 2 are under investigations followed by Copperbelt Province with 6 cases and 1 still under investigation.
The Minister said one person of Muchinga Province has been convicted and sentenced to 7 years in prison with hard labor for sodomy while Eastern and Western Provinces have also reported 1 case each.
Mr. Mwiimbu further says the police are investigating 4 suspected cases of sodomy in Lusaka, on the Copperbelt, and in Western Province.
And Mr. Mwiimbu has refuted accusations that the government-sponsored the Lusaka July event which was held last month.
