Zambia stands ready to foster global peace and security, and to build capacity for peacekeeping, Army Commander Lieutenant General Sitali Dennis Alibuzwi has said.
He said Zambia Army and Bangladesh Armed Forces’ cooperation in peace support operations wherever the two Armies have been deployed alongside each other has been superb.
Lt Gen Alibuzwi said this when a delegation from Bangladesh National Defence College paid a courtesy call on him today at Army Headquarters in Lusaka.
He said the Zambia Army Officers and Soldiers have interacted well with their Bangladesh counterparts on a number of United Nations’ Peace support operations.
He thanked the Bangladesh Armed Forces for offering Zambia Army slots on gratis at the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Cooperation Training. He looks forward to Zambia’s Kenneth Kaunda Peace Training Centre (KKPTC) partnering with the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Cooperation Training so as to build capacity in the area of peace support operations.
Gen Alibuzwi explained that a number of retired and serving Officers are alumni of the Bangladesh Defence Services Command and Staff College, and that one of them, General Isaac Chisuzi, rose to become Zambia Army Commander from 2002 to 2010.
He expressed happiness that General Chisuzi’s long awaited induction in the Hall of Fame at the Bangladesh Defence Services Command and Staff College will be actualized next month.
And Bangladesh National Defence College delegation leader Major General A K M Aminul Haque spoke highly of Zambia Army’s performance in peacekeeping operations.
He revealed that while deployed as Deputy Chief of Staff (Army) on the Multidimensional, Integrated and Stabilization Mission in Central African Republic, he witnessed firsthand how hardworking and committed to duty Zambian troops are.
Maj Gen Haque, who is the Senior Directing Staff (Army) at the Bangladesh National Defence College, explained that the Zambian contingent of peacekeepers managed to move to hard-to-reach northern part of the country and established base there without any engineering support.
He commended Zambia for the warm reception of his delegation and described the people of Zambia as cordial in nature. The Bangladesh delegation is in the country for a study tour.
