Mongu Municipal Council has resolved in it’s full council sitting to dismiss two officers for forgery and misappropriation of Council funds.

The two officers, Manford Inambao, an Assistant Accountant and Gloria Katangoji, a Revenue Collector worked hand in hand to syphon Council funds for personal gain.

It was discovered that the officers misappropriated K980.00 between July, 2021 and February, 2022 and later misappropriated K19,400.00 between January and March, 2022.

During investigations, 26 receipts were also discovered to have been forged and altered.

In May, 2022, Mr Inambao was invited for disciplinary hearing where he admitted having committed the offence explaining that he worked together with a revenue collector by the name of Gloria Katangoji.

Mr Inambao revealed that he used to sign on the original receipt without a carbon paper with the actual amounts received from the clients and that Ms Katangoji used to sign on duplicate receipts with different amounts received from clients.

He further explained that after collection of money, they shared equally. The two asked for leniency.

During a Full Council Meeting held today 8th July 2022, members resolved to dismiss the two Officers as per Conditions of Service.

Councillors observed that the two officers admitted having stolen Council Funds which was evidence enough to dismiss them.

The Councillors said dismissing the officers from employment would definitely deter any would be offenders.

Meanwhile, six Councillors walked away from the meeting stating that they would only attend a Council Meeting after their salary arrears are cleared.

This was despite management making a commitment to pay the current month and all outstanding arrears.

His Worship, the Mayor, Mr Nyambe Muyumbana said he was disappointed by the conduct Councillors who walked out of the meeting.

Mr Muyumbana said the behavior of the Councillors was against the principles of the new dawn government.
