The Department of Immigration has apprehended 63 suspected prohibited immigrants.
The suspects were nabbed yesterday during a Department of Immigration-led Joint clean-up operation conducted in Kasumbalesa.
Those initially apprehended were 48 Congolese, 9 Somalis, 4 Tanzanians, and 2 Eritreans.
In a statement, Immigration Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka has explained that after the initial screening exercise, 9 Somalis and 2 Eritreans were released upon production of Refugee Certificates and valid mobility passes.
He, however, notes that 48 Congolese and 4 Tanzanians have so far been unable to produce any documentation justifying their presence in Zambia and have since been detained at Chingola Correctional Facility pending further processes.
