Minister of Green Economy and Environment Collins Nzovu has said that there will be no further extensions to the deadline for submission of applications for new timber concession licenses beyond 30th June 2022.
Government extended by one month from 30th May to 30th June, the deadline for applications for new timber concession licenses to enable more applicants to meet the conditions stated for accessing the licenses.
Mr. Nzovu said in a statement that applications submitted after 30th June will not be accepted and that a transparent mechanism shall be put in place in line with the provisions of the Forests Act number 4 of 2015 and Statutory Instrument number 50 of 2016 to handle the issuance of these licenses.
He explained that immediately after the deadline, all applications will be delivered to Lusaka and an evaluation process will commence and will take a maximum of 30 days with successful applicants to be issued with timber concession licenses starting on 1st July 2022.
And the Minister said the issuance of new timber concession licenses in the Chavuma, Kabompo, and Manyinga districts will only be done after receiving guidance from the Attorney General’s Office.
