Government wishes to dispel information circulating on various media platforms that President Hakainde Hichilema fired Electoral Commission of Zambia Chairperson Honourable Mr. Justice Esau Chulu (Rtd) and his Vice Mrs. Emily Sikazwe.
To the contrary, the President merely notified the two about their contracts which are due to expire and non-renewal of the same.
The President made this decision in exercise of the power vested in him under Section 4 (3) of the Electoral Commission (Amendment) Act No. 5 of 2019.
It is, therefore, misleading to insinuate that the President fired the two.
Government further wishes to advise the public to ignore the media reports to this effect.
