Zambia – Russia Graduates Cultural Association (ZAMRUS), a professional association seeking to connect Zambian Citizens who’s alma maters are in Russia/Solviet states, whose intention is to foster extensive development of fruitful two-pronged co-operation between Zambia and the Russian Federation in their strife to consolidate economic, cultural, scientific and educational development, yesterday, May 27th 2022 paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Zambia, H.E Mr. Azim Yarakmedov.
The mainstay of the association’s visit was to introduce the newly elected executive and fathom more possible ways of merging efforts in fostering stronger ties between the two institutions and ultimately the two national.
The meeting was held between the Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Mr. Azim Yarakmedov, Russian Center which was represented by its director, Mr. Alexander and his assistant Mr. Mabula. Another party that was present obviously was the ZAMRUS entourage, which included the president Ms. Patricia Kalinga, the treasurer Ms. Luminya Mwansa and the academic Secretary Mr. Mhango.
During this meeting, a lot of issues were discussed and were all concentrically roaming around issues of integration of cultures and other aspects that directly or otherwise engineer cordial bilateral relations. One of the issues that were discussed for instance, is the issue to do with the direction of the ZAMRUS association for staters. What is the main aim of incorporation? what are the plans? What are the objects? What is this vision? All these questions and more came up while this subject was being delved on to which the Ambassador made recommendations.
The other issue that came up was the sensitive and sentimental issues to do with trying to iron out the defects that misinformation imposes on the image of Russia especially in the wake of midst of the Russia-Ukrain tension. While the West tries to paint a certain picture of Russia, the ambassador encouraged that countries and institutions that align with Russia’s side of the tale should tell it is and counter the unfair coverage by the Western Media.
It was also proposed that there should be consideration of formulation of interests groups for different professional members of the association for the purpose of conducting community works for the ultimate purpose of pioneering the association’s agenda.
The association is also going to help prepare prospective students who are set to study in Russia with language, cultural expectations and general DOS and DONTS that come with being or studying in Russia. The association will also be holding timely joint planed events between the Russian center and the association to promote cultural integration between the two countries.
The attendees of the meeting also proposed the establishment of a bureau that will play the role of business consultation for Russians who would be interested in setting up shop or investing in any business here in Zambia. Besides this bureau it was proposed that another bureau be set up that can also be registered in Russia to act as an information hub that would convey accurate and realtime information between Zambians and Russians regarding trade environments and the general business landscape.
The last thing discussed was the involvement of members of the association in the business projects as a way to empower themselves.
