This came to light when US Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, Jose Fernandez, to Zambia visited State House.

And on his Facebook post, President Hakainde Hichilema has welcomed US Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, Jose Fernandez, to Zambia.

President  Hichilema said Zambia appreciates America’s generous contributions to the health sector through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and providing 4.5million polio vaccinations to the children among many initiatives.

He said during a meeting with Mr Fernandez,  opportunities to enhance bilateral trade and investment between thr two countries and also strengthen people-to-people ties were discussed.

“As part of our economic diplomacy, today we welcomed US Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, Jose W. Fernandez, to Zambia. It was good to learn that he visited Zambia twenty years ago and how enchanted he was by our beautiful country and it’s people.

Mr Fernandez hailed the cash injection of US$1.35billion by First Quantum Minerals, that includes many American investors, as a catalyst for creating jobs and strengthening Zambia’s economy especially in the mining sector,” he said.

“Our economic diplomacy is already having a significant impact in driving Zambia’s economic recovery, as we build towards a future of jobs, opportunity and prosperity for all,” he said.
