Minister of Information and Media, Cornelius Mweetwa, has emphasized that the government is meticulously analyzing the recent remarks made by former President Edgar Lungu at Dunamis Church in Lusaka.

Mr. Mweetwa, who also serves as the Chief Government Spokesperson, expressed concerns over Mr. Lungu’s insinuation about a potential change in government before 2026, highlighting that such implications do not align with the Zambian constitution.

Speaking to the press today, the minister conveyed that the government is thoroughly evaluating the legal and security ramifications of Mr. Lungu’s statement, taking into account the surrounding circumstances.

He further stated that the government views Mr. Lungu’s comments as not only inflammatory, but also reckless and irresponsible, especially considering his previous position as the Head of State. The minister emphasized that such deliberate provocations could potentially incite civil disobedience, lawlessness, and insecurity among Zambian citizens.

Additionally, Mr. Mweetwa revealed that President Hakainde Hichilema is scheduled to visit Kapiri-Mposhi in Central Province tomorrow for a groundbreaking ceremony marking the commencement of the construction of the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway.
