Lusaka, Wednesday, 19th June 2025 – The mortal remains of Zambia’s Sixth Republican President, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, will arrive from South Africa today, Wednesday, 19th June 2025, at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
According to the Secretary to the Cabinet, Mr. Patrick Kangwa, the arrival ceremony will be held at 14:00 hours at the Presidential Pavilion, where a Military Honours Ceremony will be conducted by the Zambia Defence Force in solemn tribute to the late statesman.
Mr. Kangwa emphasised that attendance at the event will be strictly by invitation and advised members of the public to follow the proceedings via live broadcast on ZNBC, ZANIS TV, Prime TV, Diamond TV, and other media platforms.
In a statement issued last evening, Mr. Kangwa confirmed that the body will thereafter be taken to lie in repose at the late President’s private residence at Plot No. 56660, Chifwema Road, New Kasama.
He further clarified that Belvedere Lodge remains the official venue for the State Funeral throughout the national mourning period.
To allow citizens to pay their last respects, Mr. Kangwa announced that the body will lie in state at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre from Thursday, 19th June, to Saturday, 21st June 2025, between 09:00 and 16:00 hours daily.
He urged all Zambians to continue mourning the late President with dignity, unity, and respect, honouring his legacy as a dedicated leader.
