The Zambia Police Service issues this official statement to firmly deny the baseless and malicious allegations made by the British law firm Leverets Barristers and Solicitors on behalf of Mr. Vinod Sadhu and Mr. Uddit Sadhu, as reported in The Guardian on June 24, 2024. These allegations were directed against Mr. Mubita Nawa, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Africa’s esteemed candidate for INTERPOL Secretary General.
It is important to note that Mr. Vinod Sadhu and Mr. Uddit Sadhu are currently fugitives of the Zambian legal system and are under investigation by the Zambia Police Service. The allegations presented by their legal representatives are completely unfounded and clearly aimed at tarnishing Mr. Nawa’s impeccable reputation just before the INTERPOL Secretary General elections.
The Zambia Police Service has discussed this matter with INTERPOL’s Executive Committee and its President. Today, we have officially lodged a complaint with the Executive Committee regarding these baseless allegations.
These false claims are evidently part of a deliberate smear campaign intended to undermine Zambia’s candidacy and harm Mr. Nawa’s reputation. The Zambia Police Service fully supports Mr. Nawa, who has demonstrated exemplary integrity and professionalism throughout his distinguished career in law enforcement. His unwavering dedication to justice, professionalism, transparency, and accountability has been acknowledged both nationally and internationally.
The defamatory statements propagated by Leverets Barristers and Solicitors, as reported by The Guardian, are designed to mislead the public and discredit Mr. Nawa’s longstanding commitment to policing and international cooperation. It is crucial for all parties involved to recognize these allegations for what they truly are: an effort to manipulate public opinion and derail Mr. Nawa’s candidacy for personal and malicious reasons.
Please take into account the origin and timing of these accusations and concentrate on the important matters being discussed. The Zambia Police Service continues to support Mr. Nawa, having full confidence in his capability to maintain the utmost professionalism in law enforcement and make substantial contributions to INTERPOL’s objectives. This information has been conveyed through a statement released by Milner Muyambango, the Acting Inspector General of Police, and monitored by Melo Media.
