The Zambia Immigration Department in a joint operation with the Zambia Police  in Chinsali have apprehended twelve (12) undocumented Ethiopians aged between 14 and 26 for failing to appear before the nearest Immigration Officer on entry.

Melo Media reports that Immigration Department Public Relations Officer (PRO) Namati Nshinka said 12 were nabbed Tuesday 28th May, 2024 as they wandered the bushes of Mutambe Akasuba Area in Shiwang’andu District at around 11:40 hours.

Mr. Nshinka said the Chinsali Immigration Office was alerted to the presence of the Ethiopians by alert members of the public.

“An abandoned Mitsubishi Pajero Vehicle Registration number BAG 4282 was later discovered in the area,”he said.

Mr. Nshinka said preliminary investigations suggest that they may have been transported from Nakonde in the Mitsubishi Pajero by unknown persons and were heading to Lusaka before they were abandoned in the bush.

“It is believed that there could be more suspects apart from the driver of the Pajero yet to be nabbed and therefore, the search for them has continued,”he said.

Mr. Nshinka said the 12 Ethiopians have since been taken to Chinsali district pending prosecution.
