Chongwe Municipal Council has seen a significant improvement in revenue collection since implementing a cashless payment system.
During a recent Council meeting, Town Clerk Mr. Damson Mukwato stated that the new system has been effective and efficient in collecting revenue.
Before the introduction of the cashless payment system, the council collected 3 Million Kwacha per month through various methods. However, with the new system in place, they are now collecting K7 million per month.
Mr. Mukwato emphasized that the cashless payment system is user-friendly and promotes transparency and accountability by eliminating cash handling and preventing corruption.
This system has also been beneficial for applications and issuance of business levies, fire certificates, and health permits, as all payments are made online through bank transfers, mobile transactions, and ZANACO Xapit payments.
The migration to a cashless system is crucial for the council to improve service delivery and meet public expectations, especially with the recent launch of the “STANDARD SERVICE DELIVERY CHARTER FOR MUNICIPAL COUNCILS” by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
On 2nd October, 2023, Chongwe Municipal Council made the switch from a manual payment system to a cashless system to prevent revenue loss.
