Chaos ensued in Rhoespark, Garden, Thornpark, Northmead, and sections of Fairview as darkness descended upon these areas. The tranquility of the morning was shattered when a colossal explosion rocked the ZESCO substation in Northmead, causing a catastrophic power outage. The aftermath was devastating, with all electrical installations in these neighborhoods being completely consumed by the fiery inferno. The once vibrant streets now lay in eerie silence, as residents grappled with the sudden loss of power.

Chaos ensued among the inhabitants and employees of the businesses situated near the substation as the raging fire spiraled out of control. Fear and anxiety gripped the air as people desperately sought safety amidst the escalating panic. The situation became increasingly dire, with the flames intensifying and spreading rapidly, leaving everyone on edge and uncertain of what would happen next.

Eyewitnesses have reported that a massive fire broke out at the substation while three employees from ZESCO Limited were carrying out repair works. As they were diligently working, they suddenly noticed a series of sparks, which quickly escalated into a deafening explosion. The intensity of the blast sent shockwaves through the area, leaving everyone in awe of the destructive power unleashed by the incident.

The fire brigade’s initial response, although delayed, proved to be futile as the water pump mechanism on their fire engine malfunctioned, rendering it ineffective in combating the blaze.

A short while after, the second fire machine made its grand entrance, accompanied by the mighty Zambia Airforce (ZAF) who came to lend their support and reinforce the firefighting efforts.

Startling revelations have emerged from local residents residing in close proximity to the substation, shedding light on a distressing pattern of recurring fires. Their harrowing accounts have unveiled a disconcerting truth – this recent incident is not an isolated occurrence. The gravity of the situation has left these individuals gripped with an overwhelming sense of fear, as they grapple with the daunting prospect of their lives being jeopardized once again.
