ZESCO United has disbanded four of their lower league teams and instructed them to stop using the Zesco brand. These are Zesco Shockers, Zesco Solwezi, Zesco Luapula, and Zesco Vic Falls.

Club chief executive officer Charles Malala confirmed the development in an interview and indicated that it was a board decision to cut ties with the provincial teams.

“All I can say is that it was a board resolution made about a year ago to go in that direction, to cut down the cost of managing these teams. The decision to reduce the number of developmental teams from six to two means that the remaining four will cease to exist as Zesco United developmental teams. This also means the Zesco brand name should be dropped,” said Kalala.

The club will now only to be taking care of Zesco Malaiti Rangers and Zesco Ndola girls. Credit: Times of Zambia
